Princess Serenity is the Princess of the Silver Millenium and the previous incarnation of Usagi Tsukino. She lived in the Moon Castle with her mother Queen Serenity.

Appearance[]

Princess Serenity shares the same appearance with her reincarnation, Usagi Tsukino; she has blue eyes, long pale blonde hair styled in two buns with flowing pigtails (white in Sailor Moon Eternal), and a golden crescent moon on her forehead to mark her status as a member of the royal family of the Silver Millennium.

Serenity wore a white flowing gown with white shoulder pieces disconnected from her dress, an intricately decorated bodice with gold hoops, with the bust defined by a row of golden beads. Trailing at the back, was a white gauzy bow with long fluttery ribbons. She also wore golden spiral earrings and a golden beaded bracelet on her right wrist.

Information[]

In the manga, Serenity was fascinated by the Earth. Even though she was given orders not to go to the planet, she secretly visited there and met Prince Endymion. The two then fell in love.

During the Dark Kingdom's attack which caused the Moon Kingdom's downfall, Prince Endymion died protecting Serenity. She fell into extreme grief due to Endymion's death and committed suicide. Serenity's mother, the Queen, sealed away the evil and the moon to save the rest of the solar system (as seen in Volume 3), though unfortunately, everyone involved on the moon perished.

Before her death, the Queen used the Silver Crystal to give her daughter and others another chance at life, hoping in particular that, this time, Serenity and Endymion could find happiness together.

Dark Kingdom arc[]

From the beginning of the series, Luna's task, along with awakening the Sailor Guardians, is searching for the Moon Princess. Mamoru also has constant dreams about a girl asking him to find the Silver Crystal. It is revealed in episode 9 that Princess Serenity's present incarnation is Usagi Tsukino.

Serenity was fascinated by the Earth and longed for its greenery and wind. Even though she was forbidden to go to the planet, she would go there in secret, eventually meeting Prince Endymion. The two then fell in love.

During the Dark Kingdom's attack, the catalyst of the Moon Kingdom's downfall, Prince Endymion died protecting Serenity, and out of sorrow, she committed suicide. Serenity's mother, the Moon Queen, sealed away the evil forces of the Dark Kingdom, but as a result, the Moon Kingdom turned into stone, and Earth's history had to be restarted. Before her death, the Queen used the Silver Crystal to give her daughter and others a second chance of rebirth, hoping in particular that, this time, Serenity and Endymion could find happiness together. As a result, Serenity's spirit was reborn and reincarnated in 21st century Earth as Usagi Tsukino.

Dream arc[]

When trapped by Queen Nehalennia, a memory of the past was shown to the Sailor Guardians. Soon after Princess Serenity's birth, Queen Serenity hosted a celebration and invited all. Here, the young Sailor Venus, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter saw the baby Princess Serenity for the first time and swore, as her Guardian Deities, to protect her.

Queen Nehalennia emerged from a mirror as an uninvited guest. The young Senshi rejected her and the Queen passed the Princess to Venus to hold as she spoke to the guest. Eventually, the Queen Serenity sealed the guest away into her mirror but Queen Nehalennia responded by cursing the Silver Millennium to fall and Princess Serenity die before she can become Queen as the baby cried.

After the final battle against the Dead Moon Circus, Usagi has another memory of the past where the young Princess Serenity was having nightmares about a monster in a mirror from the Inner Senshi's teasing. Her mother reassured her and telling her to let the star in her heart shine brightly.

Trivia[]

  • Even though Crystal is much more like the manga, Princess Serenity has yellow-blonde hair; like her 90s anime counterpart. However, her hair is noticeably a paler yellow-blonde than Usagi's, as opposed to the 90s anime, where Serenity had the same yellowish-blonde hair as Usagi. Her hair was changed to white in Sailor Moon Eternal.
