"Act 5 Makoto - Sailor Jupiter" is the 5th episode of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal. It aired in Japan on September 6, 2014, and in North America on December 11, 2015.

Summary[]

Makoto Kino, a tomboyish Middle School girl, transfers to Usagi's school. Luna suspects that she may be the 4th Sailor Guardian of their team to find the long-lost Moon Princess and the Silver Crystal.

Plot[]

Usagi is saved from being hit by a speeding car by a tall, brown-haired girl, who tells her to be careful before walking away. Usagi is stunned but notices the girl's pink rose earrings. Meanwhile, Nephrite claims to Queen Beryl that he can gather enough energy for their great ruler by exploiting the greatest weakness of any human; love.

At school, Naru shows her friends a picture of herself in a wedding dress, since her cousin is getting married in June. Usagi says June brides are meant to be lucky, when she bumps into the tall girl she had met earlier. She warns to be more cautious again, Usagi recognising her upon seeing the rose earrings. A teacher stops the girl, scolding her for wearing the wrong uniform, as none of the proper ones fit. Umino recalls sheā€™s a new transfer student who was kicked out of her last school for an altercation.

During lunchtime, Usagi goes outside to find Makoto sitting on a bench alone, remarking how pretty her bento is arranged. She notices Usagi staring longingly at her food, offering to share some. They naturally form a friendship, complimenting her homemade cooking and bag. Makoto asks Usagi to show her around, when she receives a vision of the Moon Kingdom. Brushing it off, sheā€™s grateful and explains no one was willing to talk to her because they were intimidated.

At the arcade, Usagi is amazed as Makoto beats levels of the Sailor V Game. Ami walks in moments later, and introduces herself to the new girl. Commenting on how Usagi has such a big heart, which helps make friends with anyone. Motoki greets them too, when Makoto sees him and immediately gets flustered, saying he looks like someone she knew. He tells them about a rumour concerning the bridal shop Naru's cousin purchased her dress from.

Usagi, Ami and Makoto arrive at the bridal store. The three fantasise over which wedding dresses they would wear on the day, choosing ones from the displays to comment on. Two women stop to talk about how the store is haunted by a mannequin who comes alive at night, and seduces men. After attending the place, grooms have disappeared without a trace.

At Hikawa Shrine, the three meet up with Rei, who says it serves the men right for being seduced by another woman. Makoto thinks itā€™s all too complicated, heading home. Rei feels it wonā€™t be the last they see of her, to which Luna agrees. Turning around, they see a woman praying out loud, hoping for her fiancĆ©ā€™s safe return. A friend comforts her, assuring her the rumours arenā€™t true and he couldnā€™t of been kidnapped.

That night, the mannequin from the shop comes to life. Motoki locks up the arcade before going home, the bride watching from across the street. She stares into his eyes, demanding him to become her slave enchantingly. Makoto walks home reminiscing about her senpai, and how Motoki looks similar. That moment, a possessed Motoki approaches, saying he searched for her everywhere, and loves her dearly. Meanwhile, Mamoru walks down the other side of the road, sensing that something is wrong, and slams his book closed.

Usagi is sleeping at night when Tuxedo Mask waits on the balcony, leading her by the hand with him. Luna wakes just as they are leaving, calling Ami and Rei on the Communicators, sensing Usagiā€™s in danger. Tuxedo Mask leads her to Game Center Crown, who sees the evil energy surrounding Motoki, as Makoto collapses to the ground drained of energy.

Rei and Ami come to the scene, seeing the same aura emanating off him. From above a rooftop, the mannequin taunts them, declaring the energy is being sacrificed for the Great Ruler. The Sailor Guardians transform, as petals from the brideā€™s bouquet rain down on them, Sailor Mars uses Akuryo Taisen, filling the area with flames.

Not affecting the enemy, she grabs hold of Makoto, if anybody moves sheā€™s going to die. Nephrite appears before them, revealing heā€™s behind the terror, calling them foolish for being so easily tricked by appearance. Hearing this, Makoto has a flashback. At her old school, she invites her senpai to walk home together, when he points out his new girlfriend waiting at the gate.

She glances at Motoki, recalling the boy she loved had blatantly lied. Falling to her knees, she announces love is all fabricated. Sailor Moon snaps her out of it, as thereā€™s someone destined for everyone. Nephrite yells love would be the death of them, before commanding the Youma to defeat the three Guardians. Makoto throws the monsters hand from around her, when the planetary symbol of Jupiter appears on her forehead. Luna tosses her a Transformation Pen, becoming Sailor Jupiter, Guardian of Thunder and Courage.

First she attacks with Flower Hurricane which paralyses Nephrite where he stands. Jupiter Thunderbolt completely obliterates the Youma with extremely powerful white lightning and electricity. Nephrite wonders if heā€™s seen Sailor Jupiter before, and disappears.

As Sailor Moon helps an exhausted Sailor Jupiter, Tuxedo Mask disappears into the night. She explains how Motoki looked a lot like her old boyfriend, a senior who broke her heart. She transferred schools, wanting to fulfill something more important than romance, and found it. Luna passes the mystical Moon Stick to Sailor Moon. She must lead the Sailor Guardians and protect the Princess and the Silver Crystal with the wand's great healing abilities.

Changes[]

Changes from the Manga[]

  • In the beginning of the chapter, Usagi has a dream where she is in a dress and notices that someone is calling out to her, but her view is obscured due to a dense fog.
  • While Usagi and Luna are walking to school, Luna brings up Tuxedo Mask and decides that Usagi should not get close to him, but Usagi is reminded of her feelings when she is with him. This catches her off guard and causes her to accidentally walk into the street.
  • Umino does not show up to tell Usagi, Yumiko, and Naru about the cursed bridal shop.
  • The teacher who stops Makoto asks her about her uniform, but not her hair color.
  • Makoto never has a vision of the Moon Kingdom when she meets Usagi.
  • There is a bride mannequin on the balcony of the store.
  • Rei's grandfather makes a brief appearance.
  • Nephrite is the mannequin in disguise, not controlling it.
  • Nephrite is killed by Sailor Jupiter's Flower Hurricane and Jupiter Thunderbolt attacks.
  • Nephrite does not acknowledge familiarity towards Sailor Jupiter during her lightning/flower-based attacks.
  • Usagi uses the Disguise Pen to turn herself into a groom to catch Nephrite off guard.
  • Kunzite and Zoisite make an appearance at the end of the chapter.
  • There is no scene in which Makoto's old sempai told her he had a girlfriend.

Changes from the 90's Anime[]

  • Sailor Jupiter first appeared several episodes after Sailor Mars joined the Sailor Team.
  • Makoto saved Usagi from three muggers rather than being hit by a car.
  • Flower Hurricane was never used at all in the first season.
  • The Moon Stick was bright pink, gold/yellow, instead of silver and bright pink.
  • Nephrite and Sailor Jupiter never met, as Nephrite had been killed by Zoisite's youma in the episode before Makoto's introduction.
  • The monster of the week was completely different, and was the beginning of the seven mystical Rainbow Crystals and the Seven Great Youma arc, which was created for the original anime. These crystals and youmas never appear in the manga.
  • Motoki was never a victim of the Dark Kingdom.
  • Naru fell in love with Nephrite, which ultimately led to his demise; this never happens in the manga or Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal.

Trivia[]

  • The scene when Nephrite explains to Beryl his plan to use love to gather energy is immediately followed by a picture of Naru modeling a wedding dress for her cousin. This may be a reference to Nephrite and Naru's brief romance in the first Sailor Moon anime.
  • In the preview for episode 5, the mannequin Youma is flesh-colored, although in the actual episode the mannequin is charcoal-colored.
