"Act 2 Ami - Sailor Mercury" is the 2nd episode of Sailor Moon Crystal and the 2nd episode of the 1st season. It aired in Japan on July 19, 2014, and in North America on November 20, 2015.

Summary[]

Usagi meets a new student named Ami Mizuno, a genius girl who gets perfect grades and attends the Crystal Seminar. Later on, however, it is revealed that she is Sailor Mercury.

Plot[]

Ami Mizuno, is shown as an intelligent student, but socially awkward. She takes her test back from the teacher, scoring a perfect grade. Outside, she sits by herself on a bench, hearing two boys talk about the fact she has no friends at all.

Queen Beryl berates Jadeite for not having obtained the Silver Crystal already, for the Great Ruler requires energy to be sustained and kept nourished. Jadeite reassures her he has a new plan, summoning a youma and commanding it to go obtain it for him.

Usagi comes back home and flops down on her bed. Luna complains that she has a lot of work to do including fighting more enemies, to which she explains arenā€™t human. She will need to find the other Sailor Guardians to protect the Princess once located. That night, Luna is shown looking through data collected on Ami Mizuno.

The next day at school, the test results come in with Ami ranking the first in the entire school, including Japan. Usagi, Naru and Umino talk about how she was recruited for the Crystal Seminar, a high end cram school for the smartest students around. They talk about how one needs to be rich in order to attend, and that Amiā€™s mom is a doctor. Naru proclaims sheā€™s so far from everyoneā€™s reach, not having any friends at all.

When school lets out, Usagi sees Ami walking home by herself, and Luna leaps from a tree onto her shoulders. She approaches Ami, telling her Lunaā€™s her cat. During the exchange, she comes into contact with Usagi's hand and is startled by a vision she receives of the Moon Kingdom. Usagi doesn't notice her surprise and invites her to come to Game Center Crown with the hopes of befriending her so that she can learn to accomplish high grades in school.

Usagi unsuccessfully attempts to beat the Sailor V game as Ami observes from the side. Ami easily advances farther into the game, surpassing the highest score. When Ami's session ends, a pen comes out from the machine. Usagi, wanting a prize too, begins shaking the machine and another pen soon falls out. Usagi expresses her wishes to become friends, and Ami shares her appreciation. She soon leaves the Game Center when realising how late it is, having to study at the Crystal Seminar.

At the seminar, a disguised youma hands Ami the disc containing coursework used for the curriculum. The next day, Naru makes plans with Usagi and Yumiko to go together after school for some ice cream. They invite Kuri to join them, but she disregards them and leaves the room, mumbling an incoherent string of numbers. Usagi sees Ami and asks if she wants to join them for their ice cream outing. Recalling her lecturer's words, Ami refuses in a robotic state before walking off. Usagi notices the CD she left near the computer. On her way home from school, she runs into Mamoru, who asks Usagi if he heard her cat talking, worriedly causing her to leave.

Upon returning home, Luna examines the Crystal Disc with Usagi on her laptop, sensing something off. They soon discover there is a message beneath the program, to brainwash the students. Realizing this is from the Dark Kingdom, Luna instructs Usagi to go to the Crystal Seminar to halt their ambitions and save the students who are in jeopardy.

Usagi and Luna go the seminar, but she worries she won't be able to enter without being found out. Luna tells Usagi to use the Disguise Pen she won from the Game Center. She uses this to transform into a Doctor, making her way inside. Ami whoā€™s been brainwashed, is grabbed by the teacher when Usagi dashes into the room. She transforms into Sailor Moon to combat the youma, but starts to cry when cornered. This unleashes sonic waves from her Odango covers. Though the youma is unaffected, Ami frees herself from her trance and screams in desperation to spare Sailor Moon. This causes the symbol of Mercury to appear on her forehead. Luna tells her to use the pen to transform by saying, "Mercury Power, Make Up". Ami transforms into Sailor Mercury, and uses Mercury Aqua Mist to cloud the youmaā€™s sight. Sailor Moon is still incapacitated and is about to be finished off, when Tuxedo Mask comes to save her. She takes this opportunity and uses Moon Tiara Boomerang to destroy the youma for good.

The next day, Usagi and Ami are walking home from school together. Usagi wants to go straight home, but Ami wants to have a meeting at her house. Elsewhere, in an unspecified location, a dark-haired girl can be seen alone in a dim, candlelit room.
